Just think of the Mona Lisa, she’s in portrait. So is Whistler’s Mother and The Girl With The Pearl Earring.
Technically, portrait refers to a page orientation where the height of the artwork is greater than the width. This is the opposite of landscape orientation.
Portrait is a common choice for booklets and posters.
