How to set up artwork files for custom cutting to shape

Discover how to set up artwork files cutting to shape or profile cutting. Our example below uses Adobe Illustrator.

1. Set up a new file

Download our artwork templates from any Vinyl product page on our website. Select the required template and adjust to your desired specifications. Alternatively, create a new file with the same dimensions as your label, and remember to add a 3mm bleed on each side.

Create a new layer from the Layers palette, and name it “Artwork”. This layer will be used to place or create your CMYK artwork.

2. Create a cutting guide

Create another new layer from the Layers palette, and name it “KissCutting”. Please note, this is case sensitive.

Create a new colour swatch from the Swatches palette and name it “KissCutting”. Please note, this is case sensitive. Select Spot Colour as the Colour Type and assign CMYK percentages as follows: C:0, M:100, Y:0, K:0.

Create a vector path on the KissCutting layer which corresponds to the cut line for your sticker, and assign it a stroke colour that corresponds to the newly-created KissCutting swatch.

Please ensure that the stroke is a thickness of 0.25pt (0.088mm).

3. Save artwork as a PDF

Prior to submitting your artwork for printing, please save your artwork as a PDF/X-1a or Print ready.
