How to Create Print-Ready Artwork for Paper Cups

Use our templates and follow the steps below for print-ready branded paper cups.

Branded paper cups artwork

Designing custom branded paper cups is a brilliant way to bring your brand to life but to get the best results in print, your artwork needs to be set up correctly. Here’s how to create print-ready artwork for your double-walled cups.

  1. Start with the correct template
Download the product template directly from the Paper cups product page. Each cup size (8oz, 12oz, and 16oz) has its own layout file, showing the exact area your design will cover once wrapped around the cup. The curves on the template account for the cup’s shape, so always design within this guide to ensure perfect alignment.
  2. Keep important elements within the safe zone
Logos, text, and key graphics should stay inside the safe area marked on the template. This prevents them from being trimmed or distorted during production.
  3. Extend your background to the bleed line
Make sure any background colours, patterns or images extend right to the bleed edge. This ensures full coverage with no white gaps once your cup is printed and cut.
  4. Use CMYK colour mode
Set up your file in CMYK for accurate colour reproduction. RGB colours (used for screens) may print differently, so converting them ensures what you see on screen closely matches the final printed result.
  5. Check image resolution and file format
All images should be at least 300dpi for crisp, professional results. Save your final artwork as a high-resolution PDF with all fonts embedded or outlined.

By following these simple steps, your design will be perfectly print-ready — ensuring your branded paper cups look as good in hand as they do on screen.

Quick checklist:

  • Print Method: Full Colour
  • Print Area: Varies by cup size – please download the relevant template for exact dimensions
  • Colours: Full Colour (CMYK)
  • Use high-resolution images (minimum 300dpi), embedded in the PDF.
  • Graphics: Raster Images & Vector
  • File Format: PDF
  • Use a minimum font size of 8pt to ensure legibility when printed.
  • Outline all fonts, or ensure they are embedded in the PDF.
  • Flatten your design and avoid using overprint settings to ensure all elements print exactly as intended.
  • Outline all strokes by converting them to shapes.
