How to set up artwork files for Labels on a Roll
Discover how to set up artwork files for our Labels on a Roll product. Our example below uses Adobe Illustrator.
1. Set up a new file
Download our artwork templates from the Labels product page on our website. Select the required template and adjust to your desired specifications. Alternatively, create a new file with the same dimensions as your label, and remember to add a 3mm bleed on each side.
Create a new layer from the Layers palette, and name it “Artwork”. This layer will be used to place or create your CMYK artwork.
2. Create a cutting guide
Create another new layer from the Layers palette, and name it “KissCutting”. Please note, this is case sensitive.
Create a new colour swatch from the Swatches palette and name it “KissCutting”. Please note, this is case sensitive. Select Spot Colour as the Colour Type and assign CMYK percentages as follows: C:0, M:100, Y:0, K:0.
Create a vector path on the KissCutting layer which corresponds to the cut line for your sticker, and assign it a stroke colour that corresponds to the newly-created KissCutting swatch.
Please ensure that the stroke is a thickness of 0.25pt (0.088mm).
Please ensure that KissCutting layer is second in the layers list and that it is set to 'overprint stroke'. You can do this by selecting all the areas that are in that colour and selecting 'overprint fill/stroke' from the attributes panel in Adobe Illustrator/In Design.
3. Create the white underpin
Follow these instructions if you have chosen “white printing” on transparent or silver stickers only.
Create a new layer from the Layers palette and name it “White”.
Create a new colour swatch from the Swatches palette and name it “White” (case sensitive). Select Spot Colour as the Colour Type and assign CMYK percentages as follows: C:100, M:0, Y:0, K:0.
Create a vector path on the White layer (no raster images) which corresponds to the area of the artwork you want to highlight with the selective white.
Please ensure that White layer is on the top and that it is set to 'overprint'. You can do this by selecting all the areas that are in that colour and selecting 'overprint fill/stroke' from the attributes panel in Adobe Illustrator/In Design.
4. Mirror printing
If you have ordered window stickers and your design needs to be “mirrored”, please submit your artwork as usual, as we will mirror your artwork before sending to production.
5. Save artwork as a PDF
Prior to submitting your artwork for printing, please save your artwork as a PDF/X-4 or Print ready.
