What is the FSC®?

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a global organisation that promotes responsible forestry. It sets standards for forest products and ensures they are met through independent certification. FSC® certification goes beyond recycling—certified paper is often made from virgin fibres sourced from responsibly managed forests, although recycled paper can also be FSC® certified.

What Does FSC® Certified Paper Mean?

FSC® certified paper is sourced in an environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically viable way from well-managed forests and other controlled sources. It’s also brighter and smoother, which helps produce more vibrant, high-quality print results.

Glossary of Terms:

  • Grammage – The weight of the paper in grams per square metre (gsm). Not to be confused with thickness.

  • Opacity – Indicates how much light passes through the paper. A higher percentage means less show-through.

  • Thickness – The thickness of the paper in micrometres (µm).

  • CIE Whiteness – A standard measurement of how much visible light is reflected by the paper.

What This Means for You and Your Customers:

  • Brighter, smoother paper optimised for print

  • More vibrant colour reproduction

  • Better, sustainable materials

  • Premium quality – at no extra cost to you or your customers

Using FSC® certified paper is win-win: your designs will be displayed more vibrantly and everyone can rest a little easier knowing we are helping to protect our forests.
