How do I supply artwork for a perfect bound booklet?
Download The Template.
We highly recommend that you use the templates for creating your perfect bound book artwork. These are technical products, and the templates have been designed to make it as easy as possible for you.
Please provide your booklet as two PDFs:
- Cover PDF (2 pages) – This should include the outer cover and inside cover as spreads, with the spine included.
- Inner Pages PDF – A multi-page PDF with the pages in order from start to finish.
Example
For an 80-page booklet:
- The Cover PDF will have two pages: Page 80 & Page 1 as a spread and Page 2 & Page 79 as a spread.
- The Inner Pages PDF will contain Pages 3 to 78 in order.
Note: The total number of pages must be divisible by 4. Avoid placing important content across two adjoining pages.
Spine Width
Use the Spine Width Calculator on the Perfect Bound product page to determine the correct spine size.
Creep (Page Trimming)
As booklets are bound, pages near the centre will have slight trimming at the edges. Our software adjusts for this, but to avoid losing important content:
- Keep text and images at least 5mm from all edges.
- Move key content at least 10mm from the binding edge.
Ink Coverage on the Cover
To protect your cover:
- Lamination is recommended to prevent scuffing or printer marks near the spine.
- If skipping lamination, reduce heavy ink coverage around the spine and inside cover to minimise visible marks.
PDF Export
When submitting your perfect bound book, supply the cover artwork seperate from the inside pages.
We need 2 PDF’s to process your order.
PDF 1 - Cover Artwork This PDF must contain the outside cover and inside cover supplied as spreads. This includes the spine in the centre. |
PDF 2 - Inner Pages This PDF will contain the inside pages to your perfect bound book. Each page must be an individual sheet. |
