How to Supply Artwork for a Laser Engraved Pen
Laser engraving etches your design directly into the surface of the pen, and we require your print file to be set up with a spot colour. Follow these steps to ensure your artwork engraves correctly.
1. Use Professional Vector Software
Always set up engraved artwork in vector format. We recommend:
-
Adobe Illustrator
-
Adobe InDesign
Avoid raster-based software (such as Photoshop and Canva)
2. Set Your Artboard Size Correctly
Check the print area size for your pen in your order details and set your artboard to match exactly.
Pro Tip - Maximum number of lines: 3 and maximum characters per line: 40
3. Create a Spot Colour for Engraving
Your artwork must use one dedicated spot colour called Engraving.
How to set it up in Illustrator or InDesign:
-
Open the Swatches panel.
-
Create a new swatch and name it Engraving.
-
Set the Colour Type to Spot Colour.
-
Set CMYK values to 100% K (black).
-
Apply this swatch to all elements of your design.
Important: Use only the Engraving spot colour. Any other colours will not appear in the final engraving.
4. Keep Your Design Simple and Legible
Engraving works best with bold, clean elements. Avoid:
-
Very thin strokes
-
Extremely fine details
-
Complex patterns
5. Export Your File
When your design is ready, export as: PDF/X-1a:2001
This format ensures accurate reproduction when we engrave your pen.
✅ Your file is now ready to upload.
