What are the different binding types?

Saddle Stitch Booklets

Saddle-stitch booklets are created by folding the pages and then securing them along the spine with staples. This binding method can accommodate a maximum of 64 pages. Due to the straightforward production process, the cost of saddle-stitch booklets is kept relatively low.

Perfect Bound Booklets

Perfect Bound - Open & Closed Variations - 2000px x 2000px.png

Perfect-bound booklets consist of two parts: the outer cover and the inner content pages. Consequently, artwork must be provided as two separate files. For further details, please refer to our Help Centre article here. The spine width is determined during the ordering process and must be factored into your artwork design. A spine calculator is available on the product page. As the spine is customisable, you can have up to 240 pages within a perfect bound book.

The inner pages are assembled into sets, and then the inner spine is glued where the pages are set. This method enables a higher page count and allows for the use of different materials for the cover and inner pages.

Case Bound Booklets

Hardcover books, also known as case-bound books, are better suited for children's books or autobiographies due to the additional protection provided by the hard cover. These covers are made from rigid cardboard wrapped in a material that allows for printing. Similar to perfect bound books, when designing artwork for a casebound book, various elements such as spine width, hinge, wrap-around, and gutter widths need to be considered. For further guidance on supplying artwork for a casebound book, please refer to our help centre's artwork guidelines. With a customisable spine, casebound books can accommodate more pages, with a maximum limit of around 400 pages.

Wiro Bound Booklets

WIRO BOUND CLOSED.png

A wiro-bound book is a type of binding where the pages are held together by a wire coil running through small holes punched along one edge of the pages. The wire coil is made of metal and is looped to secure the pages in place. This binding method allows the book to lay flat when open and enables easy flipping of pages. Wiro-bound books are commonly used for notebooks, planners, calendars, and presentations, offering durability and flexibility for frequent use. They are also popular for manuals and instructional materials, as they allow for easy reference and page-turning.
